If you don’t want to actually get married in winter or you can’t bring your wedding party to the snow but this season inspires you, stretch your creativity and let your imagination run wild. Having a winter wedding theme can be soft and romantic.
Take a piece of winter symbolic to you, a place, general environment or even sports to tie into your wedding invitations, decorations and cake. Incorporate winter colors such as white, silver and pale blues.
The bride could wear a simple long white gown, either strapless or spaghetti strap. The dress may be plain or decorated with small, clear beads or crystals. Accessorize with a hooded faux fur coat or cape, silver or clear crystal jewelery and a pair of matching strap heels. You may decide not to wear a long veil. Instead, suggest to your hair stylist to have your hair up in soft curls. Use a tiara or entwined clear crystals forming a partial crown along the top of your head. Ask for white roses for your bouquet.
The groom will look smart in a long-tailed white tux. The vest and tie or bow tie can be either silver or pale blue. His groomsmen might wear normal length tux of the same colors. Insert a single white rose in the pocket of their vest.
The bridesmaids’ gowns will be simple in silver or pale blue to match that of the Groom and his groomsmen. They may also wear a cape with faux fur trim. Have the flower girl and ring bearer wear white. Attach fur along the rim of the flower girl’s small white basket and fill with white rose petals. Remember to use fabric for your garments suitable with the season to avoid being uncomfortable, too hot or too cold.
Keep the decorations simple. For emulating winter trees use long leafless branches, preferably from a willow tree. You want these to look tall and skinny so trim accordingly. Coat with white paint and if possible go over completely using a snow spray can. Purchase a few white pots, cut Styrofoam to fit the width of your pot and place inside leaving a couple of inches or space from the rim then stick your willow branch in an upright position. Cover the Styrofoam with white pebble stones. Line pairs of these along the aisle for your ceremony.
At the reception, feature an ice sculpture and place trees around the venue. Decorate with white fairy lights or place three small spotlights underneath the tree and adjust for desired effect. Carefully place drapes along the ceiling to accentuate a chandelier, float metallic silver helium filled balloons onto the ceiling or hang icicles. Use bigger spotlights to highlight draping, walls or certain areas of the venue. For mood lighting dim lights and try covering the spotlights with pale blue light gels.
Use white linen and tableware for your table setting. Match with white seat covers and decorate with a wide silver bow. Scatter white rose petals and snow confetti on the table. For the centerpiece, float silver candles in a clear white bowl or decorate a tall frosted white vase with white flowers and skeletal leaves.
There are so many more you can do and use for this theme. Take a fun approach in your planning, discuss and brainstorm ideas with your partner, delegate tasks and ask advice from wedding professionals. Remember, what makes this unique and truly special is you, your partner and what this day means to both of you.
