Here are a few tips on how to avoid stress during planning and on your wedding day:
1. Be organised. Use a wedding diary or workbook to organise your planning. Write every idea, detail, task delegated, reminder, etc. A workbook dedicated to your wedding means information won't get lost amongst other aspects of daily life. The YSM Wedding Workbook is a perfect example, full of handy hints & tips, step by step planning guide, calendar, check lists & more.
2. Staying within budget. As half your budget will be allocated to the reception, take a closer look at your guest list to keep costs down. You don't have to invite everyone who attended your engagement party, children, cousins or relatives, work mates, plus one for single friends, etc. Work out who "must" & those who "would be nice" to invite. If the invites are non-negotiable, then look for an alternative venue or catering.
3. Plan ahead. I know it seems silly to plan a year or more ahead but venues get booked up pretty quickly especially in the high season between January to March. The earlier you book, the less likely you are to get disappointed.
4. Delegate. Don't be afraid to ask for help and delegate minor tasks to partner, bridal party, family or friends. You can take care of the intricate details but there's no harm to ask a friend to research suppliers via
www.ysm.co.nz, get quotes, etc - one can do cakes while the other find bouquets. Off-loading tasks to others allows you to clear time & head space for bigger decisions.
5. Look after yourself. With all the extra load, don't forget to look after what's most important, you. Take some time to do nothing or read a book. Reap the benefits of regular exercise - feel good, relieve daily stress, increase your metabolism, & start to see the difference too. Book a massage or pamper yourself with a facial.
